Newman’s Own Foundation Provides Over $1.7 Million to Support Nutrition Initiatives

Newman’s Own Foundation, founded by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman, today announced that more than $1.7 million in grants will be awarded to 37 nonprofit organizations that are focused on fresh food access and nutrition. This latest round brings the total grants for this category to almost $3 million in 2018. The funding will support many programs, including efforts to help create and enhance nutrition in schools and communities, provide access to fresh fruits and vegetables in underserved communities, and offer education programs about healthy and nutritious eating.

Newman’s Own Foundation has been supporting food and nutrition programs for more than 35 years, with more than $38 million donated to this focus area since 2010.

“Newman’s Own Foundation is proud to support the people and the nonprofit organizations they represent who each and every day work to improve access to fresh foods in their communities,” said Bob Forrester, President and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation. “Through their diligent efforts, they are making a significant difference in the lives of thousands of children and families around the country and an overall contribution to the health of our nation.”

The organizations receiving grants are from 17 states, plus Washington, DC. Their focus areas include a wide variety of programs including: healthy cooking, nutrition education, fresh food access, pop-up food hubs, wellness, urban agriculture, farm leadership, farmers markets, community gardens, cooking for kids, and more.

Newman’s Own Foundation continues the legacy of Paul Newman, who founded Newman’s Own in 1982, giving all profits to charity. To this day, Newman’s Own, Inc., which sells a variety of premium and organic food products, gives away 100% of the profits to charitable purposes around the world.
