Lights, Camera, Action! Launching Nourishing Narratives

How can we create a fair and just food system for everyone?

That’s the question Mosaic Film Experience, in collaboration with Newman’s Own Foundation, is inviting kids to answer with the launch of Nourishing Narratives—a new mobile film competition!

Paul Newman would have turned 100 in 2025! As part of our continued celebration of Paul’s legacy, we are using one of his platforms—film—to invite kids to share what food justice means to them. Nourishing Narratives will inspire youth to explore and reimagine what a just, equitable, and fair food system for all looks like.

Eligibility At A Glance

• Ages 10–18
• Shoot, edit, and submit film via mobile device
• 2-3-minutes
• No prior filmmaking experience is required
• Include theme, prop, and saying (below!)

Each Film Must Feature:

• Theme: food justice
• Prop: a fruit or vegetable (in any form!)
• Saying: integrate the saying, “Tomorrow Starts Here” (could be spoken, written, or displayed)

Submissions are open March 4—April 6, 2025 on the Film Freeway platform

Awards

A diverse jury will select the 100 top entries from the submissions to be featured on a dedicated YouTube channel. Up to 10 films with the most compelling story of food justice will win a $1,000 cash prize (and more!) Additionally, the winning filmmakers may also be invited to help shape Newman’s Own Foundation’s participatory grantmaking process as members of the Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council.
