To nourish and transform the lives of children who face adversity.

A radically different business model.

The Foundation owns the food company. This means our grant dollars come from the profits and royalties of the sale of Newman’s Own products. Funded by the millions of people who buy our food products, we’ve given away more than $600M to good causes since 1982.

Philanthropy done differently.

We don’t believe in single, quick fix solutions to complex problems. We take a portfolio approach, investing in a diverse group of nonprofits to effect deep and lasting change for kids who face adversity. Here are some of our guiding principles.
01

Investing in innovation

Our inaugural Food Justice for Kids Prize launched in 2024 as an open call for innovative nonprofits, schools, and Tribes.
02

In it for the long haul

We work with nonprofits and Tribes over multiple years, doubling down on those showing impact, and provide flexible funding to meet core needs.
03

Supporting change at every level

We provide grants to a variety of nonprofit organizations, groups, and communities–all working at different levels of change.

Multiplying the impact of our work.

We look for peer funders and strategic partners willing to co-invest, amplify, and elevate our grantee partners’ work so that each dollar we give out can go further.

Participatory grantmaking.

Paul Newman was an early proponent of participatory giving by annually seeking his community’s recommendations for nonprofits to support. With modern tools such as Grapevine, we can now involve you in this community.
